What an obituary usually says
Most obituaries follow this order, which helps readers find what they need.
- The announcement. Their full name, age, and when and where they died.
- Their life. Where they were born and to whom, school, work, marriage, and the places they lived.
- Who they were. What they loved, what they were known for, a small story.
- Family. Those who survive them, then those who died before them.
- The service. When and where, and where to send donations in place of flowers.
If it will appear online or in a newspaper, leave out the home address and the exact birth date. Both are used for identity theft.
